Operation Bluestar Anniversary: Amritsar Turns into Fortress, Devotees Flock to Sri Akal Takht Sahib

“Peaceful remembrance is the goal,” said the Police Commissioner.

Operation Bluestar Anniversary, Ghallukara Diwas, Amritsar Alert, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Latest News: Amritsar has turned into a virtual fortress as security agencies brace for the 41st anniversary of Ghallukara Diwas, to be observed at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6. In light of the emotional and historical gravity of the occasion, the administration has deployed around 7,000 security personnel throughout the city.

Commemorating the victims of Operation Bluestar in 1984, Ghallukara Diwas is a day of deep mourning and reverence for the Sikh community. Lakhs of devotees are expected to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib and the adjoining Akal Takht, leading to a major law and order exercise by the Punjab Police and district authorities.

Checkpoints have been set up at strategic locations, including roads leading to the Golden Temple, main markets, and transportation hubs. High-resolution drones and CCTV cameras are being used to monitor the city from above and ensure any suspicious activity is immediately flagged.

“Peaceful remembrance is the goal,” said the Police Commissioner. “We will not allow mischief-makers to hijack this solemn occasion. We are ready for any eventuality.”

The SGPC, which manages gurdwara affairs, has also taken additional measures at the Akal Takht Sahib and has urged devotees to adhere to maryada (religious decorum). Special health units, ambulances, and fire teams have been stationed nearby as a precautionary step.

Meanwhile, digital policing has also been stepped up. Dedicated cyber teams are monitoring online activity to prevent the spread of inflammatory posts, fake news, or communal content.

In a joint statement, religious bodies and the district administration appealed to the public to maintain peace, communal harmony, and spiritual discipline during the observance. As Amritsar stands on high alert, the collective prayer remains: that the legacy of sacrifice be honored in peace.
