Moga/Jalandhar: Following the Punjab government’s directive to suspend striking tehsildars and naib tehsildars, employees at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices in Moga and Jalandhar have gone on mass leave in protest. The walkout has brought operations to a standstill, with staff in Moga abandoning their posts and clerical workers in Jalandhar extending their collective leave into a third day.
Dalbir Singh, district president of the District DC Office Employees’ Union, announced that a meeting of the Revenue Officers’ Union scheduled for today in Moga will determine the next steps. “After today’s meeting, we’ll decide our future course of action,” he said. The gathering will include union leaders, suspended revenue officials, and other employees, with speculation that sharper measures could be unveiled. In Moga, DC office workers vacated their desks as a show of defiance.
In Jalandhar, the clerical staff joined the tehsildars’ strike, expressing outrage over the suspensions. Though a tehsildar reported to the Jalandhar tehsil office this morning to mark attendance, they remarked, “With the clerks on strike, what can I do sitting at my desk?” The ongoing protest has disrupted public services, including property registrations, for a third consecutive day, leaving citizens in limbo.
