Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has once again proven its commitment to global Punjabi welfare by becoming the first state in India to launch and sustain a dedicated Online NRI Meet program — an initiative that has now become a model for others to follow.

With the vision to bridge the distance between Punjab and its diaspora, the state government initiated this monthly digital platform much before any other state. It enables Non-Resident Punjabis (NRIs) from across the world to raise their concerns directly with the government. Since its inception, this program has not only continued uninterrupted but has also produced tangible results.

Punjab govt continues to personally interact with NRIs via video conferencing each month, addressing their grievances face-to-face in real time. Once registered, complaints are routed to the relevant departments and the ADGP of the NRI Wing of Punjab Police for swift resolution.

In a bid to deepen engagement, the Punjab Government also launched the “Connect with Your Roots” scheme, aimed at youth between 16 and 22 years of age, encouraging them to visit Punjab, reconnect with their cultural heritage, and strengthen their bond with the land of their forefathers.

Furthermore, NRIs are being inspired to take part in the grassroots development of their native villages. Under a 50:50 partnership model, they are contributing to essential infrastructure projects like schools, hospitals, street lighting, sanitation, libraries, and sports facilities — with the Punjab Government matching their contribution.

This pioneering initiative by Punjab has not only empowered the diaspora but has also redefined public engagement in the digital era. While others are still conceptualizing similar outreach, Punjab continues to lead by example, turning virtual connections into real-world impact.
