No Heatwave During Nautapa in Punjab This Year, monsoon could be impacted
This year, the temperatures did not rise during the Nautapa (nine hottest days) period in Punjab. According to the Meteorological Department's report, there has been a noticeable change in the weather across various districts in the past few days, with the average maximum temperature recorded 2.1°C lower than usual. On June 2, 2025, the maximum temperature in Bathinda was 42.7°C.
Even today, the maximum temperature in many parts of the state ranged between 36°C and 38°C. Additionally, yellow and orange alerts have been issued for rain in 16 districts of the state. During this period, rainfall, strong winds, and dust storms are expected. June 2 also marked the completion of the nine-day Nautapa period.
Not a single day during this season witnessed extreme heat in Punjab. However, experts believe this could impact the monsoon. They say that if there is no intense heat during Nautapa, the monsoon season could weaken. This may directly affect water reserves and agriculture.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, the temperature on Monday dropped by an average of 1.3°C. The weather is expected to remain dry in the coming days. An orange alert has been issued for Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, and Mansa districts. Meanwhile, yellow alerts for rain and thunderstorms have been issued in Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot.
