Punjab, MP Leaders Urge Reforms and Aid in Budget 2025

Punjab, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema reacts to Union Budget 2025 latest news: As the Union Budget 2025 was presented, leaders from Punjab and Madhya Pradesh raised significant concerns and called for reforms and aid to address pressing issues such as inflation, agriculture, and national debt.

Punjab's Demands: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema firstly congratulated Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on presenting the budget but focus attention on the state's specific needs. During a pre-budget meeting in Jaisalmer, Cheema submitted a memorandum to the Government of India, highlighting the need for a special package for Punjab, an agrarian state, to diversify crops. He also demanded a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to protect farmers' interests. He stated that we demand for railway conectivity also to pay attention on the problem of stubble burning,to enhance security at border we demanded for funds.

Cheema expressed concerns over rising inflation and urged the government to take measures to address it. "Whether it is about gas rendering, income tax, or daily necessities, inflation is increasing in the country. I think the BJP will try to reduce inflation," he said.

Madhya Pradesh's Concerns: In Madhya Pradesh, State Congress President Jitendra Jitu Patwari voiced alarm over the country's financial situation. He highlighted the national debt, which he reported to be Rs 270 lakh crore, and the growing economic disparity. "The country is in debt of Rs 270 lakh crore. The situation is getting worse day by day, and inflation is increasing. The poor in the country are becoming poorer, and the rich are becoming richer," Patwari stated.

Government's Response: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi assured that the Union Budget 2025-26 would be pro-people, pro-poor, and pro-middle class, as it has been under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Ever since the economy of this country started being taken care of under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we have given pro-people, pro-poor, pro-middle class Budget. It will be the same this time," Joshi told reporters in the Parliament premises.

Budget Highlights: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record eighth consecutive Budget on Saturday at 11 am in Lok Sabha. The Budget speech outlined the government's fiscal policies, revenue and expenditure proposals, taxation reforms, and other significant announcements.
