AAP Mocks Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Over AQI ‘Temperature’ Remark, BJP Hits Back

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) publicly mocked Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for equating the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) to “temperature”. According to the report, Gupta referred to AQI as “temperature” during a public event.

AAP leaders, including MLA Sanjeev Jha and the party’s Delhi president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, shared a video on social media platform X in response, in which Jha is shown humorously measuring AQI using a thermometer while Bharadwaj expresses mock shock. The video was captioned to convey that people in Delhi are “now measuring pollution with a thermometer”.

The AAP’s mockery triggered a sharp response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor condemned the AAP behaviour. He said that Delhiites were “shocked” by senior AAP leaders like Bharadwaj and Sanjeev Jha ridiculing the CM over what he described as a “minor slip”. He challenged the AAP to answer for what he called the “serious mistakes” of their own leadership, particularly pointing towards errors committed by former CM Arvind Kejriwal over the years.

If AAP persists in mocking the chief minister over this verbal error, it would reflect petty politics, Kapoor said. He suggested the party should apologise, or else it should brace itself for electoral repercussions in future Assembly and municipal elections.

In the midst of Delhi’s deepening air pollution crisis The incident has triggered wider discussion about public communication and sensitivity. According to observers, such gaffes, especially from high officeholders, can erode credibility on serious hardships like air quality, which directly impacts public health.

Through social-media satire, AAP mocked Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for equating AQI to temperature. BJP, in its sharp response, called it a petty ridicule and demanded an apology, turning a verbal error into a political controversy.
