Paris Olympics 2024, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from Wrestling final: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday met the family of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was recently disqualified ahead of the Gold medal match against USA on Wednesday for failing the second-day weigh-in.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann met with the family of Vinesh Phogat today in Haryana, extending his heartfelt support to the family members of the Indian wrestlers.
"Vinesh's disqualification is deeply disheartening, yet the entire nation remains immensely proud of her unwavering dedication and spirit," said the Punjab CM, adding that the nation was proud of Vinesh Phogat.
"We are disappointed that our daughter... due to some technical issue. She won three games in a day, defeating three champions. Whose fault was it (Vinesh Phogat's disqualification)? I don't want to politicise the matter, I am a sports lover. What were the Indian Olympic Association members doing? Why didn't they raise this issue and ask for another chance? She won three games in a day but she was overweight 100 grams the next day, and all her games were canceled," said Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann after visiting wrestler Vinesh Phogat's home in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana.
Likewise, Dronacharya Awardee Shri Mahavir Phogat praised the Punjab Government's sports policy. "This strengthens our resolve to support and uplift our athletes. In every step we take, we remain dedicated to nurturing sportspersons and fostering excellence," he said.
