Punjab Vidhan Sabha Monsoon Session Begins With Obituary Reference

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed the issue of Budha Nala.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Monsoon Session News Today: The three-day monsoon session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has commenced. During the session, tributes were first paid to the deceased, and a two-minute silence was observed in their memory. These personalities included many former MLAs and freedom fighters, such as the Padma Shri award-winning poet Surjit Patar, who recently passed away.

Opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa stated that he had filed a petition in the High Court. He mentioned that there was currently no rule regarding the use of cameras in the Vidhan Sabha. A demand letter was sent to the Chief Justice on August 9, requesting equal opportunities for all members during this session.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali MLA Manpreet Ayali raised the issue of extending the session. Additionally, he expressed concerns about the land acquisition for the National Highway Authority's BharatMala project, stating that fair compensation for the land is not being provided.

He emphasized that the cost of land in Punjab is not less than one and a half crore rupees, and farmers should receive the full value of their lands. Ayali urged the Punjab government to prioritize resolving farmers' issues. He also brought up the issue of an old drain, to which the Speaker responded that a committee has been formed and is working continuously on the matter.

Responding to the opposition, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed the issue of the water from the Budha Nala. He highlighted that many villages in Fazilka were suffering from diseases due to this polluted water. These villages were previously part of Jalalabad when Sukhbir Singh Badal was the MLA.

However, the people here continue to suffer from dangerous diseases, he said, adding that the Punjab government is now taking measures to address the issue.
