Varnika Kundu said that this is what we were expecting and this is a great development for judicial system. We kept our faith in the judicial system and it has delivered. The stalking, which created ripples across the country, took place on 4 August, when Kundu accused Vikas, the son of Haryana BJP chief Santosh Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar of following her car in the middle of the night in Chandigarh.

The two men were arrested following her complaint but were released on bail as they had been booked under bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.

However, they were arrested again on 9 August after they joined the police investigation and were then charged with attempted abduction under sections 365 and 511 of the IPC.
