California-based Indian man charged With Killing a Child Sex Offender in US Latest News: A California-based Indian man identified as Varun Suresh (29) allegedly stabbed David Brimmer (71) to death after finding the latter’s name on a public sex offender registry, India Today reported citing court documents.
The incident reportedly took place at the residence of the victim in Fremont City.
Police were called to the crime scene where the elderly man was found dead and the alleged offender was taken into police custody.
Brimmer was reportedly listed on California's Megan's Law website as a sex offender and had spent nine years in jail for abusing a child.
Varun, the accused charged with the murder on Monday, during an interrogation said that all sex offenders ‘deserved to die’ and that he wanted to kill one for a very long time, the report said citing court documents.
The report, citing the court documents, further said that Varun, after finding Brimmer on the sex offender database, pretended to be a public accountant, going door to door looking for clients. He even carried “a notebook, coffee and a bag to look more authentic.”
Before finding Brimmer's home, Varun visited the victim's neighbours in disguise so that people wouldn't doubt his act.
When Varun finally found the victim, the report said, he shook his hand and said, “I knew I had the right guy.”
Following this, Varun chased Brimmer and finally caught him in a neighbour's house, where he stabbed him in the neck.
According to the court documents cited in the report, Varun asked Brimmer to ‘repent’ before slitting his throat.
Varun, charged with the murder, did not show any remorse and described the act as “honestly really fun.”
“I’m hoping that because (Brimmer) is a paedophile, everyone hates paedophiles, it should be cool. It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates," he allegedly told the police, as quoted in the report.
Varun also said that he did not plan to run away and would have called the police himself after the murder.
According to the report, Varun was arrested earlier for a fake bomb threat, criminal threats and burglary after he left a bag at the Hyatt Place in Fremont.
At the time, he reportedly told the police that he had been "hunting" the CEO of the Hyatt chain of hotels because “he was a paedophile and wanted to kill him.”
