
New Delhi: Voting began around 10 am on Saturday for the 15th Vice-Presidential election in which ruling NDA's candidate M Venkaiah Naidu is pitted in a straight contest with Opposition-backed Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were among early voters.
MPs of both Houses of Parliament are members of the collegium that votes in the V-P poll. Voting will continue till 5 pm and is being conducted by Rajya Aabha Secretary General, returning officer for the election. There are 790 MPs in both houses with four current vacancies. Anyone who wins half the valid votes cast plus one will clinch the top constitutional office.
According to the returning officer, 96.94 per cent polling recorded till 3 PM.
