The recent news regarding the proposal of the Uttar Pradesh government to built a “grand statue” of Ram on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodha hit the headlines when the state has been witnessing the poor health facilities in the government hospitals.

Who cares as Yogi Adityanath government has been promoting the Hindutva in the state? A prominent English newspaper reported that the proposal has given by the UP government to governor Ram Naik to promote the religious tourism.

According to the newspaper report, the government’s slideshow put the height of the statute at 100 metres but some officials said that wasn’t final.

The presentation, made by principal secretary of tourism Awanish Kumar Awasthi, included information on programmes scheduled for Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya on October 18.

The Uttar Pradesh needs the better health facilities in the government hospitals. A day ago, 16 children, including ten infants, died at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur on October 9.

Of the children who died, ten were admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) while six were in the paediatric ICU.

Officials said that 1,470 patients have been admitted to the BRD Medical College since January this year, adding that a total of 310 have died.

The BRD Medical College hit the headlines earlier in August when over 63 children, including infants, died within a span of one week due to disruption in oxygen supply by the vendor.

A total of 290 children died in the hospital in the month of August, of whom 213 died in the neo-natal ICU ward and 77 in the encephalitis ward.

But, it seems the UP government has nothing to do with the welfare of the people. The government has been frequently trying to please the Prime Minister Narendra Modi by promoting the agenda of Hindutva.

In August, when the 63 children died in a span of the one week due to the lack of oxygen supply, the Yogi government ordered the Janamashtmi celebrations across the state.

Even the Uttar Pradesh government didn’t mention about the Taj Mahal in the tourism booklet released this year. One of the seven wonders, the Taj Mahal was missing in the tourism booklets.
