The brochure released by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department displays most of the other cultural and heritage sites in the State, particularly those associated with the Hindu religious tourism.

It is crystal clear that the BJP led regimes in states wants to eliminate the legacy of Mughals. Earlier, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said the Taj Mahal did not represent Indian culture, but the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita did.

Yogi’s statement drew flak as the Mughals has the legacy of various monuments like Red Fort and Taj Mahal. Finally, the UP government deliberately not listed the one of the Seven Wonders of the World in the tourism book.

The brochure has a picture of the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi on its cover featuring Adityanath and tourism minister of UP, while its inside pages cover most of the cultural and religious sites of tourism and circuits like the Ramayana, Budhha, Krishna, Bundelkhand, Vindhya and Awadh.

The BJP led government in Maharashtra had removed the Mughal period from the History textbooks of class VII. Taj Mahal, Qutub Minaar and the Red Fort are now where in the revised History textbooks. The board had only highlighted the ‘Maratha Empire’ founded by the king ‘Shivaji.’

The revised textbook highlighted the Maratha Empire and removed the period of ‘Mughal rulers.’ Moreover, the architectural contribution of the Mughals also removed from the books.

The revised history textbook for class IX mentions the ‘Bofors scam’ and the Emergency of 1975-1977.

There is also no mention of the ‘rupaya’ that was first introduced as currency by the Afghan invaders, and the term still continues. In the revised textbook, ‘Shivaji’ has been made the hero in the text books. Even the cover of the revised textbook depicting the saffron flags on the map of the country.

If we look at the reason behind the move, then it’s obvious that the BJP led government in Maharashta wants to remove the information of Mughals from History books to glorify ‘Hinduism’.

The BJP governments in states especially in the regime of Prime Minister Narendra Modi trying to eliminate the glorious past of the Mughal era just to glorify Hinduism.
