Kolkata: The CID tonight arrested two
police officers, apparently close to former IPS officer
Bharati Ghosh, for their alleged involvement in misconduct and
extortion from civilians, a senior CID officer said.
Inspector Subhankar De and sub inspector Chitta Pal
were arrested in ongoing operations of the Daspur case, the
officer told PTI.
Pal was officer-in-charge of Ghatal police station and
De was circle inspector there.
The CID officers also seized approximately Rs 40 lakh
cash and unaccounted wealth during raids at De's residence and
approximately Rs 16 lakh cash and unaccounted wealth from Pal,
he said.
All legal requirements were strictly fulfilled before,
during and after these arrests, the senior IPS officer said
adding that the duo will be duly forwarded to Court tomorrow,
"We will continue with our searches. Our CID officers
have spread out beyond state borders for taking legal action
against other suspects and accused," the officer said.
The CID has again served a notice at Ghosh's husband's
residence for appearing before the investigating officer
tomorrow.
The CID had earlier also served notice to Ghosh's
husband asking him to appear before the investigating officer
but he had sought more time.
The CID last week had raided the residences of Ghosh
and two other police officers in connection with the case.
Gold jewellery, documents and a large sum of cash were
seized from the residences of Ghosh, the officer said.
Police carried out the raid following a court order
after a person complained that some police personnel had
forcefully taken money from him last year, the officer said.
Ghosh, who was the West Midnapore SP, had resigned
from the services after she was transferred to a less
significant post - the commandant of the third battalion of
the state armed police - in late December last year.
