Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal urged people to show unity in the fight against air pollution.
Delhi Air Pollution and Quality Index Latest News: On Diwali, the air quality in Delhi plunged into the 'very poor' category, with the AQI reaching 329 according to SAFAR-India data at 8:30 AM. The situation worsened in Anand Vihar, where the AQI skyrocketed to 418, classifying it as ‘severe’. Other regions faced similarly alarming levels of pollution, with areas like Alipur at 305 and Rohini at 358.
Residents voiced their concerns over the pollution, highlighting issues like irritation in the eyes and a general sense of helplessness regarding the deteriorating air quality. One local expressed frustration, saying, “There are several problems we are facing due to pollution... Nothing is being done to tackle the issue.”
In response to the pollution crisis, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged Delhiites to avoid firecrackers this Diwali, advocating for the traditional lighting of diyas instead. At a press conference, he emphasized that the festival should be celebrated with lights, not smoke.
“Even the Supreme Court and High Court advise against bursting crackers due to pollution. Whatever pollution will happen, our children will suffer from it. Everyone's life is important,” he stated, urging unity in the fight against air pollution.
