Further Investigation in the matter is underway
NEW-DELHI: The Bhajanpura area of Northeast Delhi is in shock following the alleged shooting of Harpreet Gill (36), a senior manager at E-Commerce giant Amazon. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night around 11:40 pm, has left the community in disbelief. Gill and his friend Govind Singh (32) were targeted by five unidentified assailants, resulting in Gill's tragic death and Singh's critical injuries.
The shooting occurred in Subhash Vihar, where the victims were riding a motorcycle. The assailants, riding on both a scooter and a motorcycle, intercepted them, opening fire without warning. The brutal attack left Gill with a fatal head wound, and he was rushed to Jag Pradesh Chandra Hospital. Tragically, medical professionals were unable to save his life, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Singh is currently receiving medical treatment for his head injury at Lok Naik Jai Prakash Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Joy Tirkey provided additional details, stating that Gill was a resident of Bhajanpura and held a senior managerial position at Amazon. The gunshot had entered the right side of his head and exited on the other side. Similarly, Govind, a local dhaba owner, was shot in the head and is now fighting for his life in the hospital.
Notably, Police swiftly launched an investigation into the matter, utilizing CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and is currently under investigation. A murder case has been registered in connection with the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that a verbal altercation transpired between the victims and the assailants prior to the deadly shooting. Govind shared with the police that the attackers appeared to be young, around 18 to 19 years of age. One of the suspects identified is a local criminal named Maya, based on the ongoing investigation.
The grieving family of Harpreet Gill is demanding justice and stringent actions against those responsible for his untimely demise. Karnail Singh, Gill's father, expressed their disbelief and anguish, recounting the last moments shared with his son. Gill's mother, too, emphasized his hardworking nature and called for justice to prevail.
