Delhi Govt Includes Takht Damdama Sahib as 5th Sikh Takht in Delhi Gurdwara Act After 54 Years

Delhi Government has included Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Punjab as 5th Sikh Takhat after 54 years since Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 came into existence.

President of Dashmesh Sewa Society and former member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that this amendment bill was passed by the Delhi Legislative Assembly on January 4, 2022 and thereafter sent to the Central Government on January 2022 for the consent of the President of India, despite that it was decided in principle in the year 2015 to implement this amendment.

He said that after kept pending for over 3-1/2 years, the assent of the President has been concurred thereby this Takhat Sahib was including in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 as 5th Sikh Takhat through Gazette notification issued recently by the Delhi Government on June 24, 2025.

Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib also known as ‘Guru ki Kashi’ was declared as fifth Sikh Takhat by the Shiroman Gurdwara Management Committee in November 1966 but it was included in the Punjab Gurdwara Act 1925 after a long period of 33 years on the eve of 300 years celebration of Khalsa Sirjana in April 1999.

Mr Inder Mohan Singh, President of Dashmesh Sewa Society has asked the Delhi Government’s Director Gurdwara Elections to make necessary amendments in the DSGMC (Co-option of members) Rules 1974 also and complete the formal process for co-option of the Jathedar Sahiban of the newly inducted 5th Sikh Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab so that his presence in the forthcoming General House of DSGMC is ensured.

He said after this amendment, the number of Co-opted members will increase from 9 to 10 and members in General House will increase from 55 to 56.
