Delhi Police Strengthen Citizenship Verification Norms During Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants latest news: In a firm action to check illegal immigration, the Delhi Police have made it clear that Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and ration cards will no longer be accepted as documents of Indian citizenship. Only a Voter ID card or an Indian passport will be accepted as valid documents.".

This shift comes following complaints raised in an on-going verification campaign launched in October last year. The authorities noted large numbers of foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, falsely presenting themselves as Indian citizens using these now-invalid documents.

A top police officer said that most illegal immigrants had acquired Aadhaar cards, ration cards, PAN cards, and even United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) documents, making the identification process complex. To rectify the situation, more stringent verification procedures have been implemented.

Delhi Police have ordered Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in all districts to step up monitoring of people believed to be staying in the nation illegally. Officials assure that activities aimed at tracing and repatriating illegal immigrants will go on until the very last person is traced and sent back.

Apart from targeting other foreign nationals, the authorities have also intensified checking of Pakistani nationals residing in Delhi. According to reports, about 3,500 Pakistani nationals live in the capital city, of which around 520 are Muslims. Over 400 of them have already gone back to Pakistan through the Attari border.

As the verification campaign gains momentum, authorities insist that they are set on reinforcing control on immigration and enforcing adherence to the new documentation requirements for citizenship.
