“Pakistan is Congress's mistake. If they had not accepted partition, there would have been no Pakistan today.”
Leaders React to HM Amit Shah’s Speech on Operation Sindoor Debate in Monsoon Session 2025
Leaders Reaction on Amit Shah’s Speech on Operation Sindoor Debate today latest news: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Tuesday, delivered a lengthy speech in the Lok Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, covering not only the recent anti-terror operation but also Operation Mahadev and criticizing the past failures of the Congress government.
He held Jawaharlal Nehru responsible for China being a member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) instead of India.
“The news of the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack being killed should have sparked a wave of joy in the Opposition as well, but their faces look as if they’ve been smeared with ink,” Shah said.
He also accused the Congress of weakening India’s counter-terrorism framework. “Atal Ji's government brought the POTA law against terrorism, but Congress repealed it in December 2004 for vote-bank politics. After that, a series of terrorist attacks began, which continued throughout the UPA era.”
Shah further blamed Congress for the India-Pakistan partition, saying, “Pakistan is Congress's mistake. If they had not accepted partition, there would have been no Pakistan today.”
Opposition Reacts Sharply
DMK MP K. Kanimozhi, speaking to the media, criticized the Home Minister, saying, “He was only trying to shift blame onto someone else and focused on history rather than answering present concerns. There was no constructive discussion or clarity on who takes responsibility for the Pahalgam attack.”
Congress MP Mallu Ravi backed Priyanka Gandhi's strong response in Parliament, “Priyanka Gandhi gave a befitting reply to the Home Minister, Defence Minister, and others. This is the failure of the current government. During the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the Home Minister resigned. Why is no one taking responsibility now? This is an irresponsible government. Even in the face of tragedy, they are trying to divide people on religious lines.”
Congress MP Jebi Mather said, “The Home Minister should learn the right lesson. Coming from a party that played no role in India’s freedom struggle, they keep rewriting history. We won’t be surprised if they change the textbooks too. The sacrifices of Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and others cannot be ignored.”
TMC MP Kirti Azad raised questions, “How did terrorists manage to infiltrate 200 km inside our country to reach Pahalgam? How do we believe that those killed in Operation Mahadev are the same terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack?”
Congress MP Manickam Tagore slammed Amit Shah for avoiding the present, “The discussion was about Pahalgam. We all credit our soldiers for Operation Sindoor's success, but the Home Minister is stuck in the past — 1947, 1948, 1956. We are asking who is responsible for Pahalgam, not for partition. Will Nehru be blamed for this too?”
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, however, defended Shah’s remarks, “It is a historical fact that Congress accepted partition, which led to Pakistan's creation. That remains a black spot in Indian history, and Congress is solely responsible.”
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized Shah for failing to accept moral responsibility, “In his one-and-a-half-hour speech, the Home Minister didn’t say a single word about the failure of his department. LG Manoj Sinha showed more courage by admitting there was a security lapse. Pahalgam didn’t happen because of Nehru or the UPA—it happened due to the Home Minister's failure.”
He added, “The Home Minister tried to hide behind the bravery of our armed forces instead of practicing ‘Rajdharma’. He should have taken moral responsibility.”
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in her Lok Sabha speech, said, “The Union Home Minister spoke about what Nehru and Indira Gandhi did. He even spoke about my mother's tears. But he never answered why the ceasefire was announced.”
