Tewari urged the government to make an immediate statement on the matter and allow a full-fledged discussion in Parliament.
Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari on Tuesday moved an Adjournment Motion in the Lower House of Parliament, urging the suspension of routine business to discuss concerns surrounding the interim trade agreement between India and the United States, including issues related to economic security, energy policy and agricultural access.
“I move that this House do suspend Question Hour, Zero Hour and all other listed business of the day to take up the serious concerns emanating from the USA–India Joint Statement on the Interim Trade Agreement and the recent Executive Order of the White House,” the motion stated.
The notice further alleged that commitments relating to Russian oil purchases and agriculture-related concessions may have been made, raising questions over India’s energy security, farmers’ interests and strategic autonomy.

Tewari urged the government to make an immediate statement on the matter and allow a full-fledged discussion in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Opposition is also set to bring a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the second leg of the Budget Session, as the motion requires a 20-day notice period. The move follows allegations that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was repeatedly prevented from speaking in the House.
Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat earlier told news agency ANI that over 125 signatures have been collected in support of the proposed motion.
In a tit-for-tat move, Opposition members also disrupted proceedings and allegedly prevented Prime Minister Narendra Modi from speaking in the Lok Sabha.
Earlier in the day, a meeting of INDIA bloc floor leaders was held at the office of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at the Parliament House complex.
Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi was also present at the meeting.
