 1954: Allahabad (Prayagraj)
The first Kumbh Mela after India's Independence saw a devastating stampede on February 3, 1954. Around 800 people were trampled to death or drowned while attempting to take a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya. This tragedy led to significant changes in crowd management at religious gatherings.

1986: Haridwar
At least 200 people were reported dead in a stampede during the Kumbh Mela at Haridwar. Chaos broke out as security steps barred access to the riverside, and the throng panicked, followed by a deadly crush of people.

 2003: Nashik
In Nashik, Maharashtra, a stampede killed at least 39 people and injured over 100 others during the Kumbh Mela. Thousands of pilgrims had gathered at the Godavari River for a sacred bath when the tragedy occurred.

2013: Allahabad (Prayagraj)
A stampede broke out at the Allahabad railway station during Kumbh Mela on 10 February 2013; 42 deaths were reported while 45 got injured. Widespread panic was caused as a result of the collapse of a footbridge.

2025: Prayagraj
The most recent stampede took place during the Maha Kumbh Mela at the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj on Mauni Amavasya. At least 10 fatalities and many injuries have been reported due to the barriers collapsing under the pressure of the massive crowds. Rescue operations are still ongoing, and the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
