Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi were among the prominent leaders who attended the ceremony to pay their respects. Several other dignitaries, politicians, and admirers also gathered to honour Dr. Singh, whose contributions to India's economic and political landscape remain unparalleled.

A Nation Mourns

The funeral procession, steeped in tradition and respect, began from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, where party workers and supporters had gathered earlier in the day to pay their tributes. Emotional scenes unfolded as thousands remembered Dr. Singh as a leader of integrity, humility, and vision.

Prime Minister Modi described Dr. Singh as a statesman who left an indelible mark on India’s progress. "His contributions to modernizing India’s economy and his steady leadership during challenging times will always be remembered," Modi said.

Full State Honours

The former Prime Minister was accorded full state honours, with the tri-services personnel presenting a ceremonial salute. The national flag was draped over the coffin, symbolizing Dr. Singh’s lifelong service to the nation.

A Legacy Remembered

Dr. Singh, who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, was instrumental in spearheading economic reforms that transformed the nation during his tenure as Finance Minister in the early 1990s. His calm demeanor and commitment to inclusive growth earned him admiration across party lines.

Rahul Gandhi, visibly emotional, called Dr. Singh "a guiding force and a pillar of the Congress party." "His wisdom and vision for India will inspire generations to come," Gandhi added.

Public Tributes

Crowds gathered outside Nigambodh Ghat and the AICC headquarters to bid a final goodbye to Dr. Singh. Many spoke of his humble beginnings and his rise to become a towering figure in Indian politics. Jasmeet Kaur, a Delhi resident who attended the ceremony, said, "Dr. Singh's policies touched the lives of millions. He was a leader who truly cared for the common people."
