However, Chandigarh reported its first COVID-19 death of the current wave on Wednesday.
India’s COVID-19 Cases Rise to 1,010 latest news: On May 27, the number of COVID-19 cases in India during the current wave reached 1,010. The symptoms are similar to those of a common cold or flu, and the strain appears to be "very mild," ANI reported, citing doctors.
Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health for the Government of Odisha, told ANI that while the number of cases is increasing, hospitalizations are not. He added, “There is nothing to worry about since this strain seems to be very mild. We advise people to be cautious but not to worry.”
Arjun Dang, Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Dangs Lab, stated that the rising cases of COVID-19 belong to a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant.
Dang explained, as quoted in the report, “We must understand that the currently spreading variants are again a sub-lineage of the Omicron virus. Additionally, in states like Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, we have certain other sub-variants that have been named Variants Under Monitoring, and these are basically of two types — LF.7 and NV.1.81. Currently, the cases we are seeing are more transmissible. They can infect people easily, but again, from a severity perspective, we have not seen any serious cases so far.”
However, Chandigarh reported its first COVID-19 death of the current wave on Wednesday. A 40-year-old man from Ludhiana passed away at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.
