Five days after BSF constable Purnab Kumar Shaw inadvertently crossed into Pakistan, his family is still anxiously awaiting news of his release, as efforts by Indian authorities have yet to yield a breakthrough.
The 34-year-old jawan from Hooghly district, West Bengal, reportedly wandered into Pakistani territory while escorting farmers near the Ferozepur border. Despite three rounds of flag meetings, Pakistan Rangers have offered no clear assurance, claiming they are awaiting orders from higher-ups.
At home, Shaw’s pregnant wife, Rajani, is battling immense anxiety. "It’s been five days, and we’re still waiting for any positive update. Every passing day feels like a lifetime," she said tearfully.
Determined to get answers, Rajani, along with her young son and other family members, will travel to Ferozepur on Monday. "I’m flying to Chandigarh tomorrow and then heading to Ferozepur. We need to meet the BSF officials and understand what is happening," she added.
Meanwhile, frustration is mounting within BSF ranks as well. “There is still no official word from Pakistan. We continue to wait for a positive response,” said a BSF officer involved in the talks.
The situation has stirred emotions back home, where Shaw’s family and community members are praying for his safe and early return.
