Dr Manmohan Singh Last Rites Death Latest News Today: The last rites of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will take place on Saturday, with an official announcement expected on Friday.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, speaking late Thursday night, described the passing of Dr. Singh as a profound loss for the nation. “Dr. Manmohan Singh was a true icon of the Congress and the country—a post-independence hero whose governance and vision left a lasting legacy,” he said.
Dr. Singh’s body was brought to his residence at 3 Motilal Nehru Marg late Thursday night from AIIMS, New Delhi, where he passed away. His remains will be available for the public to pay their respects before the final rites.
Senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, have gathered in Delhi to honor the former Prime Minister. Congress leaders across the country have expressed their grief, canceling all party programs, including the Congress Foundation Day scheduled for December 28, to observe seven days of mourning.
Dr. Singh, 92, passed away on Thursday evening due to age-related health conditions. According to AIIMS, he suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at home and was declared dead at 9:51 PM after efforts to revive him failed.
In his condolence message, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Dr. Manmohan Singh led India with immense wisdom and integrity. His humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the nation. I have lost a mentor and guide, and millions of us will remember him with pride.”
Jairam Ramesh highlighted Dr. Singh’s pivotal contributions to India’s history, including landmark legislation on rural employment, education, food security, and the Indo-US nuclear deal. “Many of his initiatives were credited to others, but Dr. Singh never minded—he simply offered his trademark smile,” Ramesh added.
Leaders from across the political spectrum, including Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, and Akhilesh Yadav, have expressed their condolences. Ghulam Nabi Azad and other Congress leaders described the loss as “irreplaceable.”
Born in 1932 in Punjab, Dr. Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leading the country through significant economic reforms and historic legislative milestones.
