Policeman Injured in Four-Day Anti-Terrorism Operation in Kathua District, Jammu and Kashmir: One policeman was injured in a firefight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Thursday during a four-day-old anti-terrorist operation, officials said.
The shootout took place in the morning close to Jakhole village of the Rajbagh sector of Ghati Juthana, some 30 kilometers from Sunday's shootout site in the Hiranagar sector. Officials said more forces had been sent to the scene, and the shootout was still underway at the time of the last report.
The terrorists are said to be from the same group that had fled after an extended engagement in the Hiranagar sector last Sunday evening. The police Special Operations Group (SOG) initiated the operation based on intelligence inputs of the presence of terrorists at a plantation near Sanyal village along the Pakistani border.
The operation has been taken to the level of hunting for terrorists over a range of several kilometers, from Sanyal to Ding Amb and further. Security personnel, with sophisticated monitoring and technical equipment, are carrying out the operation with the assistance of helicopters, UAVs, drones, bulletproof cars, and sniffing dogs.
The officials believe that the terrorists entered Indian territory on Saturday, likely through a stream or a newly dug tunnel across the border. Security forces have stepped up search operations, especially along roads that lead to the Billawar forests, successfully tracking down the terrorists.
On Monday, the search parties found four packets of an M4 carbine, two hand grenades, a bulletproof vest, sleeping bags, tracksuits, food packets, and IED-making material in plastic packets at the scene of the gunbattle in Hiranagar.
Nalin Prabhat Director General of Police has been camping in Kathua and is heading the anti-terror operation for the last four days along with Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police, Bhim Sen Tuti.
