Houses of 5 Terrorists Blown Up in Crackdown After Pahalgam Terror Attack
In a crackdown on suspects linked to the Pahalgam terror attack, the houses of five terrorists, including that of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, were destroyed following the April 22 attack that killed 26 tourists at Baisaran Meadows.
The latest actions were carried out in Shopian, Kulgam, and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, according to an NDTV report.
The house of LeT commander Shahid Ahmed Kutte was destroyed in Shopian's Chotipora village. Kutte had been involved in terror-related activities for the past three to four years and is accused of playing a major role in coordinating anti-national operations, the report said, citing officials.
The house of Zahid Ahmed, an active terrorist, was demolished in Kulgam's Matalam area.
The house of terrorist Ahsan Ul Haq was also blown up in Pulwama's Murran area. According to reports, he had traveled to Pakistan in 2018, received training, and recently returned to India.
The house of LeT terrorist Ehsan Ahmad Sheikh, who has been active since June 2023, was razed as well.
The house of the fifth terrorist, Haris Ahmad, was blown up in a blast in Pulwama's Kachipora area. He has reportedly been active since 2023.
According to the report, citing sources, cases have been registered against all five terrorists.
Houses Destroyed Earlier:
On Thursday night, the houses of two other LeT terrorists, Adil Hussain Thoker and Asif Sheikh — who, according to reports, were behind the Pahalgam attack — were blown up in separate blasts. There were reportedly explosives inside the houses, according to the sources.
The Pahalgam Terror Attack
The attack on April 22 killed 26 people — mostly Hindu tourists — and left several injured. One of the victims was a Nepali national, and a local Muslim pony operator also lost his life.
Following the attack, a massive joint search operation was launched by the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Anantnag Police released sketches of three terrorists involved in the attack and announced a reward of 20 lakh rupees for any information leading to their arrest. Among the three, one was identified as Adil Hussain Thoker, while the other two were Pakistani nationals identified as Hashim Musa alias Suleman, and Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai.
Diplomatic Measures Taken by India against Pakistan
Following the terror attack, India took five major diplomatic measures against Pakistan:
• Closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari.
• Ban on Pakistani nationals entering India
• Suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, giving them 40 hours to leave India.
• Reduction in the number of diplomatic officers in both countries' High Commissions.
In a major turn of events, India also placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance — marking the first time India has taken such a crucial step in the 60 years since the treaty was signed.
