Punjab, Chandigarh weather forecast update amid snowfall in Himachal Pradesh: The recent snowfall in the northern mountains has brought a significant drop in temperatures across Punjab and Chandigarh, intensifying the winter chill. The region has also experienced mild tremors, further adding to the public's concern.
In the past 24 hours, Punjab has seen a temperature drop of 6 degrees Celsius, with the average now 4.9 degrees below normal. Chandigarh recorded an even sharper decline, with temperatures plummeting by 9.5 degrees Celsius, 6.4 degrees below normal. Across Punjab, district temperatures ranged from 12°C to 18°C, with Gurdaspur recording a chilling low of 4°C.
Rainfall Across the Region
Several districts also experienced rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Pathankot recording 5.4 mm, Bathinda 8.4 mm, Fatehgarh Sahib 2.5 mm, and Ferozepur 2 mm. Other areas saw light drizzle to moderate rainfall, contributing to the cold spell.
Weather Forecast
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain dry over the next two days. However, a slight further drop in temperatures is likely, keeping the cold wave intact.
Cold Wave and Fog Alerts
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for 17 districts in Punjab. These include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, and Ludhiana.
Additionally, a fog alert has been announced for several areas. Dense fog and smog warnings have been issued for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, and Ludhiana, which could impact visibility and travel conditions.
