Prime Minister Narendra Modi Begins Two-Day Official Visit to Saudi Arabia, latest news:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia and will arrive in Jeddah, the commercial capital of the country, today. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend various meetings and programmes and interact with the Indian community residing there. There are about 2.7 million Indians currently living in Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister shared an update about his visit on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, saying:

"Leaving for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where I will be attending various meetings and programmes. India values our historic relations with Saudi Arabia. Bilateral ties have gained significant momentum in the last decade."

This visit comes at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and marks Prime Minister Modi's first visit to the country’s commercial capital. It is his third visit to Saudi Arabia overall.

The Crown Prince had last visited India during the G20 Summit in September 2023. During this visit, both leaders will co-chair the second meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council.

"Look forward to participating in the 2nd Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council. I will also be interacting with the Indian community there," the Prime Minister wrote on his X handle.

A large number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed between the two countries. Discussions will focus on strengthening economic ties, enhancing defence cooperation, and addressing regional political challenges, according to a report in The Times of India citing Indian Ambassador Suhel Ajaz Khan.

On Tuesday, about six MoUs are likely to be signed. Key agreements are expected in the fields of space, energy, health, science, culture, and advanced technology, the report said, citing PTI.

"India and Saudi Arabia will keep moving forward together—for peace, progress, and prosperity, not just for our people, but for the entire world," the Prime Minister told Arab News in an interview before his departure, according to PTI.

He also stated that the proposed Free Trade Agreement between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) holds significant potential to enhance economic ties between India and Saudi Arabia.
