Rocket was launched under a dedicated commercial mission by NSIL
AMARAVATI: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched two Singaporean satellites, TeLEOS-2 and LUMELITE-4, by PSLV-C55 rocket on Saturday afternoon. These satellites were placed in low Earth orbit from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
The Rocket was launched under a dedicated commercial mission by New Space India Limited (NSIL). The rocket took off with 'TeLEOS-2' as the primary satellite and 'LUMELITE-4' as the co-passenger satellite. Both the satellites were installed in low earth orbit. POEM will also fly with these two satellites. POEM will conduct some tests in the vacuum of space. This was the 57th flight of PSLV.
Notably, this mission has been named TeLEOS-2 mission. With this launch, the total number of foreign satellites sent into orbit has gone up to 424.
What is POEM?
The full form of POEM is the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module. PSLV is a four stage rocket. Its three states fall into the ocean. The final, fourth stage, also known as PS4, leaves the space junk after the satellite is placed in its orbit. Now POEM will be used to experiment on top of this. This is being done for the fourth time.
What is LUMELITE-4?
Created in partnership with the University of Singapore's Center for Satellite Technology and Research. It aims to enhance Singapore's e-Navigation maritime safety and benefit the global shipping community. It is 16 kg.
What is TeLEOS-2?
It is a telecommunication satellite. The Singapore government designed it with the help of engineering students. Its weight is 741 kg. It is worth noting here that it will provide information related to disaster management.
