Indigenous Forum Calls for Immediate Action as Nation Condemns Manipur Violence

MANIPUR: The state of Manipur is grappling with a horrifying incident where two women have been captured on video walking around naked, igniting a wave of anger and concern across the nation. The shocking visuals have been circulating on social media with the hashtag #ManipurViolence, drawing widespread condemnation.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has come forward, alleging that the two women were subjected to a brutal gang rape in a farm. The organization is urging the Women's Commission and the ST Commission to take swift action in response to this deeply distressing matter. Both women belong to the Kuki tribe, according to the forum's claims.

In the viral video, the helpless women are seen being molested by a mob, while their pleas for mercy fall on deaf ears. The incident reportedly took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, situated about 35 km from Imphal. However, due to the internet shutdown in the area at the time, the video could not be disseminated earlier. The police have since registered a case and initiated investigations into the heinous act.

Prominent Congress leaders, Priyanka Gandhi and Alka Lamba, have vehemently opposed the appalling incident and are calling upon all parliamentarians to address the issue of women's persecution in Manipur during the upcoming Monsoon session. Their appeal is to ensure that this grave matter receives due attention and action in the House.

Manipur Police have confirmed that the viral video indeed shows two women amidst a crowd, devoid of any clothes. A case has been registered at Nangpok Sakmai Police Station, and authorities are actively pursuing the search for the accused individuals involved in this horrifying crime.

As the nation stands united in denouncing the brutality inflicted upon these women, calls for immediate justice and stringent measures against the perpetrators are resonating throughout the country.
