Jhansi Fire Accident Latest News Today: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the devastating fire at Jhansi Medical College, Uttar Pradesh. The financial assistance will be provided by the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured in the incident.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared, “PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap at Jhansi Medical College. The injured will receive Rs 50,000.”
Expressing his grief, Prime Minister Modi described the fire incident at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as “heart-wrenching.” Offering his condolences, he said, “My deepest sympathies are with those who have lost their innocent children. I pray for strength for the grieving families. The local administration, under the supervision of the state government, is working tirelessly on relief and rescue operations.”
CM Yogi Announces Further Assistance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced Rs 5 lakh in financial aid for the parents of the deceased newborns. Families of injured infants will receive Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. CM Yogi has directed officials, including the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jhansi, to submit a report on the incident within 12 hours.
The Tragic Incident
The fire, believed to have been triggered by a short circuit in an oxygen concentrator, rapidly spread through the oxygen-rich NICU late Friday night. At least ten newborns lost their lives, while others sustained burn injuries. Over 50 newborns were receiving treatment in the unit at the time of the incident.
Parents and families of the affected children have been left devastated, with many still searching for answers and seeking accountability. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated that DNA testing would be conducted, if necessary, to identify three of the ten deceased newborns. Seven have already been identified.
