Chairperson of Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation (SILF) Tarun Das was conferred upon the Japan Imperial Decoration for his contribution to the strengthening of bilateral ties. Following the conferral of the decoration insignia and diploma, Japan's envoy to India Kenji Hiramatsu, in his congratulatory remarks, acknowledged Das' services to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which grew to become one of the largest business federations in India.

Hiramatsu said Das spearheaded initiatives like the Parliamentarian Visitation Programme and the India-Japan Strategic Dialogue and also collaborated with The Nippon Foundation in its efforts to end stigma and discrimination against leprosy.  The envoy also commended Das' efforts to nurture India-Japan relations. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Minister for Commerce and Aviation Suresh Prabhu also attended the event.
