ISRO India Space Satellites Latest News Today: ISRO ON Thursday successfully joined two satellites creating history as part of (SpaDex) Space Docking Experiment joined Two Space Satellites Together.
Breaking the world record, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully joined two satellites in space, becoming the fourth country to do so after the United States, Russia, and China. The historic achievement as part of the mission called the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX), launched on December 30, 2024.
Thus, the main aim of ISRO's SpaDeX mission was to validate the technology requirements for the meeting, docking, and undocking of two small spacecraft in a low-Earth circular orbit. The mission comprised two satellites, SDX01 and SDX02, designed specifically to test the docking technology.
On January 12, a trial attempt was made. In this, the two spacecraft were taken to three meters of each other and then pulled back to a safe distance. On January 16, 2025, ISRO finally achieved the docking of the satellites. The space agency announced that after the docking, control of the two satellites as a single object was successful.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO scientists as well as the entire space fraternity on the successful demonstration of the space docking of satellites. Tweet: "Congratulations to our scientists at ISRO and the entire space fraternity for the successful demonstration of space docking of satellites. It is a significant stepping stone for India's ambitious space missions in the years to come.
ISRO chief Dr V Narayanan also congratulated the team, saying, "India made its name in space history India ISRO's SpaDeX mission accomplishes historic docking success. Proud to witness this moment!"
The successful docking of satellites marks a significant milestone in India's space program, demonstrating the country's capabilities in space technology. ISRO plans to conduct further tests, including undocking and power transfer checks, in the coming days.
This is a testament to the ever-increasing Indian power in the realms of space research and technology. As ISRO continues pushing space research further and further, India shall stand out among major players of the global space industry.
