Dragon Capsule with IAF’s Shubhanshu Shukla and Ax-4 Crew Safely Splashes Down Latest News:
SpaceX has confirmed the successful splashdown of the Dragon capsule carrying Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and three other astronauts from the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4). The capsule landed off the coast of California on Tuesday.
SpaceX went live during the event, providing real-time updates on the splashdown. Both the drogue parachutes and the four main parachutes of the Dragon capsule were successfully deployed, ensuring a safe return for the crew.
“Splashdown of Dragon confirmed – welcome back to Earth, @AstroPeggy, Shux, @astro_slawosz, and Tibi!” SpaceX posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“This is Dragon’s second human spaceflight mission to splash down off the coast of California after the Fram2 mission, which returned Dragon recovery operations to the West Coast this past April,” SpaceX said in another post earlier.
Following multiple delays, Group Captain Shukla and his team embarked on their historic space journey aboard Axiom Mission 4, which launched successfully at 2:31 a.m. EDT (0631 GMT) on June 25, 2025, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Shubhanshu Shukla is now India’s second national astronaut to travel to space, following Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma’s historic flight in 1984.
Originally scheduled for June 11, the Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station was delayed by about two weeks due to unfavorable high-altitude wind conditions, as confirmed in a SpaceX report.
