According to the IMD, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in many parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and West Rajasthan, with isolated severe heat wave pockets. Punjab and East Rajasthan also reported widespread heat stress, while isolated areas of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh were not spared either.

Punjab is likely to remain in the grip of a heat wave from June 13 to 15, with severe heat wave conditions predicted in isolated or some parts on June 13. Night-time temperatures have also been unusually high. Warm night to severe warm night conditions were reported in parts of East Rajasthan and isolated pockets of Haryana and Punjab.
Yesterday, temperatures in most parts of Rajasthan and Punjab hovered between 43°C and 48°C, with Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan recording the highest maximum temperature of 47.8°C.

The IMD warns of very high chances of heat-related illnesses and heat stroke, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. A red alert has been issued in some areas, indicating an extreme heat risk, while orange alerts highlight high health concerns and increased chances of dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Health Advisory:
•    Avoid direct exposure to the sun.
•    Stay indoors during peak afternoon hours.
•    Drink plenty of fluids — even if not thirsty.
•    Use Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) or homemade drinks like lemon water, buttermilk, lassi, or torani (rice water) to maintain hydration.

A gradual fall of 2-4°C in maximum temperatures is expected across Northwest, Central, and East India after two days, offering some respite from the intense heat.
