Chandigarh, January 13, 2025: Northern India continues to reel under a severe cold wave, with temperatures plummeting and dense fog affecting visibility. In Chandigarh, a thin layer of fog enveloped the city on Monday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a temperature of 18.4°C at 11:30 a.m.
The IMD predicts a minimum temperature of 8°C and a maximum of 19°C for Chandigarh. Other cities in the region reported similarly low temperatures, with Karnal being the coldest at 7.2°C. Amritsar recorded 14.8°C, Patiala 16.4°C, Ludhiana 12.8°C, Ambala 16°C, and Hisar 12.6°C at the same time.
The region also experienced light rain on Sunday, adding to the chilly conditions. Across northern India, cold weather and dense fog have caused significant disruptions.
In Delhi, a thick fog blanket reduced visibility on Monday morning, disrupting travel. The minimum temperature at Palam was recorded at 9.6°C, while Safdarjung reported 9.4°C. Dense fog led to several flight delays at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, and many homeless residents sought refuge in night shelters as the winter chill intensified.
Train services were also severely affected, with numerous delays and cancellations reported. Purushottam Express experienced the longest delay of 311 minutes, followed by Poorva Express (198 minutes), Shramjeevi Express (197 minutes), and JBP NZM SF Express (187 minutes). Other impacted trains included the Rajendra Nagar Patna Tejas Express (124 minutes), YPR Dee Duronto Express (154 minutes), and Suhaildev Express (105 minutes).
As the cold wave persists, residents across northern India are bracing for more disruptions and harsh weather conditions.
