Chhattisgarh Urban Body Elections: Voting Underway latest news: Raipur, February 11, 2025 – Voting for the urban body elections began this morning in Chhattisgarh. Citizens have been thronging 597 polling stations for voting in favour of 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar panchayats. As the voting commenced at 8 am, the results are now eagerly awaited by the people at 5 pm on February 15.
The state has a voter base of 44.74 lakh, with women leading the way in political participation—22.73 lakh female voters are set to make their voices heard, outnumbering their male counterparts by a slender margin.
The campaigns leading up to these elections have been highly charged. On February 6, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai sparked the campaign trail with the Vijay Sankalp rally in Korba and a spirited roadshow in Raigarh. His message was simple: trust the BJP for continued development. "The double-engine government has been formed. Now, we have to form the triple-engine government," he declared with conviction, reiterating the party's commitment to the state's progress.
In Raipur, CM Sai outlined the BJP's strategy, emphasizing that today is an election day. "Our campaign for the municipal corporation elections is starting today. There is a meeting in the East Municipal Corporation and in the evening, there is a roadshow in the Raigarh Municipal Corporation," he announced.
The deputy chief minister, Arun Sao, was of the same optimism. "Lotus will bloom in these urban body elections, BJP will win," he confidently predicted. Sao touched on the workers' conferences that are to be held soon and the energy within the party in an effort to energize and align members to their election responsibilities.
He did not let any stop him from vitriolizing the Congress party, pointing at the internal chaos and dissatisfaction among the Congress members. "Effigies of the Congress state president have been burnt in multiple places, revealing dissatisfaction. Congress is struggling to find candidates. Lotus will bloom in these urban body elections, BJP will win," Sao said, taking a sharp dig at the opposition.
As the polls close on election day, Chhattisgarh waits with bated breath for the results of an election that will define its urban governance and development.
