Indian Navy Unveils Crest of INS Nistar, First of Two Diving Support Vessels Set for Induction
Visakhapatnam, July 10: The Indian Navy on Thursday unveiled the crest of INS Nistar, the first of two Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) soon to be inducted into the Eastern Fleet.
INS Nistar brings advanced capabilities in deep-sea diving and submarine rescue. The crest features an anchor, symbolizing maritime dominance and stability, with a dolphin encircling it — representing friendship and serving as a harbinger of fair weather for seafarers. The ship’s motto, "Deliverance with Precision and Bravery," aptly reflects its mission and operational ethos.
The Indian Navy is scheduled to commission INS Nistar at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, on July 18, 2025, in the presence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The event will mark the formal induction of the indigenously designed and constructed vessel, built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam. Once commissioned, INS Nistar will join the Eastern Naval Command to support deep-sea diving and submarine rescue operations.
The vessel stands as a testament to the Government of India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production and the vision of Aatmanirbharta. More than 120 MSMEs contributed to the construction of this state-of-the-art vessel, achieving over 80% indigenous content.
This project represents a significant milestone in the Indian Navy’s ambition to design and build complex indigenous platforms, further strengthening the nation’s maritime capabilities.
