People Should Not Be Troubled: PM Modi Comments on IndiGo Cancellation Issues

During the NDA parliamentary party meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “people should not be troubled” amid the ongoing IndiGo flight cancellation crisis. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju conveyed this message to the media after the meeting. According to Rijiju, the prime minister emphasised that rules and corrective measures must not lead to harassment of the public and that passengers’ convenience should be the top priority.

PM Modi’s remarks came at a time when IndiGo has been facing massive disruptions due to crew-rostering issues and compliance with updated rest norms, which caused hundreds of cancellations and delays across the country. The disruptions have caused widespread frustration among commuters and sparked criticism from opposition leaders, who raised severe concerns and questioned the alleged monopoly in the aviation sector.

Kiren Rijiju said that the government is aware of the issues faced by passengers and is examining the underlying issues which are affecting private airlines. He further added that the civil aviation ministry will provide detailed information to Members of Parliament and the public regarding the corrective measures to be taken to resolve the issue.

Rijiju also responded to opposition concerns in Parliament, where MPs highlighted the level of the disruptions and asked whether the government intended to intervene more strongly. Rijiju said that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation and assured that passengers’ interests would not be compromised.

Parliament is simultaneously debating other national issues, but the IndiGo crisis has emerged as a major concern given the peak travel season and high passenger demand. Discussions are expected to continue as the civil aviation ministry prepares clarifications on regulatory requirements, airline compliance, and passenger relief measures.

PM Modi’s assurance focuses on calming public anxiety by highlighting that systemic measures should not inconvenience citizens. The situation now hinges on the prompt action taken by airline operations to restore normalcy and how effectively passengers affected by cancellations receive refunds or re-booking support.
