Punbus and Punjab Roadways Employees Call Off Strike After Meeting with Harpal Cheema
Chandigarh – The strike by Punbus and Punjab Roadways employees has been called off following a meeting with Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. The employees, who had announced a three-day strike starting today, agreed to withdraw their protest after assurances from the government.
Addressing the media, Minister Harpal Cheema stated, “We held a detailed meeting with the employees today. They have agreed to end the strike. Another round of talks has been scheduled to find a permanent solution, which is likely to take place on the 28th of this month. I am confident that a resolution will be reached soon.”
Cheema further added that records of the decisions made by the previous committee handling the employees’ demands have also been requested for review.
Responding to criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Cheema remarked, “If the BJP wants to protest, they should do it in front of their own offices, because gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is in their jails.”
On the BJP's demand for a CBI probe into developments in Sirsa, the AAP leader said, “It shows how deeply concerned they are about the criminals they’ve been shielding. Every time Punjab takes strict action, BJP opposes it.”
The strike had affected bus services across the state, but with its withdrawal, normal operations are expected to resume shortly.
