Sonam Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Father Claims Daughter is Innocent, Demands CBI Probe, Accuses Police of Lying
In the ongoing Indore couple case, the father of the accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, Devi Singh, claimed that his daughter is innocent, accused the Meghalaya state and police of “making up stories,” and called for a CBI investigation into the case.
Speaking to reporters, the father said, “My daughter is innocent. I have trust in my daughter. She cannot do this (kill her husband)... They got married with the consent of both families. The state (Meghalaya) government has been lying from the beginning. My daughter came to a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and called her brother... Police went to the dhaba, and she was taken from there. I have not been able to speak to my daughter. Why would my daughter do such a thing (kill her husband)?”
Devi Singh said he is considering meeting the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and later Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request a CBI probe.
“The Meghalaya Police is lying. My daughter reached Ghazipur on her own. She was not arrested in Meghalaya. We are planning to meet the Madhya Pradesh CM and then the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a CBI inquiry. Meghalaya Police is making up stories. Once the CBI inquiry begins, all officers at the police station (in Meghalaya) will be behind bars.”
Accusing the Meghalaya CM of lying, he said, “...The Meghalaya CM is lying regarding this case. A CBI inquiry should also be conducted against him. I am sure the CM is lying. Union Home Minister Amit Shah should send the CBI there as soon as possible...”
He also made serious allegations about the Meghalaya Police’s involvement in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
He said, “Sonam called her brother, Govind, who informed me that she had been found at a dhaba in Ghazipur. My appeal to the government is to initiate a CBI inquiry. Meghalaya Police is lying. They have not conducted any proper investigation. I am 100% sure that Meghalaya Police is involved in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.”
Singh added, “I have not spoken to the family of Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam and Raja did not know each other before marriage.”
He further stated that it was an arranged marriage.
“Meghalaya Police is trying to trap Sonam in this case. If a CBI inquiry is conducted, the officials of the police station in Meghalaya will end up behind bars.”
Earlier today, a senior official from the Uttar Pradesh Police said that Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the late Raja Raghuvanshi, was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road.
The couple, both residents of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing during their honeymoon in the northeastern state of Meghalaya last month. The husband’s body was later recovered in Meghalaya on June 2.
Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh, and police officials reportedly sent her to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
She is currently being kept at the Sakhi One Stop Centre, an official said. The Sakhi One Stop Centre is a shelter for women who are victims of violence.
Meanwhile, three assailants connected to the murder have been arrested from Madhya Pradesh.
In a social media post on X, Chief Minister Sangma informing about the, “Within 7 days, a breakthrough has been achieved by the #MeghalayaPolice in the Raja murder case... 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, a female has also surrendered, and operations are still underway to catch one more assailant...”
The body of Raja Raghuvanshi was reportedly found in a gorge near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya.
