Jammu and Kashmir Election Results 2024: In a significant achievement, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has opened its account in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections with Mehraj Malik securing a victory in the Doda constituency. Malik, a well-known figure in local politics, triumphed over the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Gajay Singh Rana, marking AAP's first major win in the region.

Malik, 36, who is an elected District Development Councilor (DDC), gained popularity for his outspoken stance against the administration under the Lieutenant Governor. His campaign focused on promises to improve basic amenities for the people of his mountainous constituency, resonating well with the voters. His victory was further bolstered by a rally in Doda held by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, which added significant momentum to his campaign.

The win in Doda is part of Jammu and Kashmir's first assembly elections since 2014, conducted in three phases. Voting for 24 seats was held on September 18, followed by 26 seats on September 25, and the final 40 seats on October 1. With a voter turnout of 63.45%, slightly below the 2014 figure, the elections remained peaceful, with no major incidents reported.
