Farmers Stubble Burning Fine and Penalty Latest News Today: The Government of India increased penalties for farmers who continue the practice of stubble burning, implementing stricter environmental compensation rules to curb air pollution.
The new regulations fall under the 'Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (Imposition, Collection, and Utilization of Environmental Compensation for Stubble Burning) Amendment Rules, 2024', aiming to reduce harmful emissions impacting the National Capital Region and surrounding areas.
Under these new rules, farmers will now face higher charges based on the size of their farmland. Those with land holdings of less than two acres will be required to pay Rs 5,000 in environmental compensation.
Farmers with land between two and five acres will face a Rs 10,000 penalty, while those holding over five acres will incur a hefty Rs 30,000 fee.
The government’s move targets repeat offenders and aims to encourage more sustainable farming practices. Stubble burning has long been linked to severe air pollution spikes in the region, particularly during the winter months.
The amended rules reflect the government’s intensified focus on environmental responsibility and come as part of broader efforts to combat pollution and improve air quality.
