Farmers Protest at Shambhu Border Latest News Today: The tense standoff at the Shambhu border, which had escalated during the farmers' "Dilli Chalo" march, eased significantly after appeals from farmer leaders prompted protesters to retreat from police barricades. The Haryana Police, which had earlier deployed tear gas to disperse the gathering, ceased its action as the situation de-escalated.
Following the initial chaos, where barricades were dismantled and thrown into nearby water bodies, the scene turned calmer when leaders urged the crowd to avoid confrontation and return peacefully. Responding to the appeals, farmers began dispersing from the site, reducing tensions along the Haryana-Punjab border.
Earlier, security forces resorted to tear gas shelling to prevent farmers from proceeding toward Delhi, citing the prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Ambala. The heavy deployment of police personnel and barricading caused temporary unrest, but the farmers’ retreat marked a significant reduction in the standoff.
Local authorities have maintained internet restrictions in the area and have continued to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, discussions between farmer leaders and officials are ongoing to address the grievances and demands of the protesters.
