Farmers Protest Latest News Today: Tensions escalated on Friday as several farmers were detained at Greater Noida’s Pari Chowk while participating in the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march from the Shambhu border to Delhi. The march caused significant traffic congestion in various areas due to strict security checks at borders and heightened police deployment in central Delhi.
Over a hundred farmers embarked on a march on foot from the Shambhu border, defying restrictions imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Ambala. The section prohibits unlawful gatherings of more than five people in the district. Despite these prohibitions, some farmers managed to bypass initial roadblocks, though many were stopped at the Shambhu border.
Commenting on the restrictions, a senior police official stated, "The farmers do not have permission to enter Haryana. The Ambala administration has invoked Section 163 of the BNSS to maintain law and order."
The protest triggered widespread disruption, with heavy police presence and barricades causing traffic jams in Noida and Greater Noida. Meanwhile, at the Noida border, another group of farmers from Uttar Pradesh held a sit-in demonstration, prompting additional security measures.
To manage the situation in Ambala, authorities suspended internet services until December 9, citing concerns over potential misinformation and unrest. All processions, whether on foot, by vehicle, or other means, were prohibited until further notice. Schools across the district, including government and private institutions, were also ordered to remain closed for the day.
The farmers’ protest is part of an ongoing movement to demand government action on issues related to agriculture, including minimum support prices and broader policy changes. Despite the challenges, farmers remain steadfast in their resolve to reach Delhi and voice their demands.
