Haryana Assembly elections 2024: Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action by transferring the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bhiwani district, alleging a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections.
Hooda accused the Bhiwani SP of exhibiting bias against the Congress Party and showing open support for BJP candidate JP Dalal. He claimed that this violation of the MCC was an attempt to influence the election results in favor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"The Election Commission of India is urged to immediately transfer the Superintendent of Police, Bhiwani, out of the district for being biased against the Congress Party and openly supporting BJP candidate JP Dalal, in violation of the MCC to influence the election results," Hooda posted on X (formerly Twitter).
With 2.03 crore eligible voters, the stage is set for the Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, scheduled for Saturday, October 5. Voters will cast their ballots in 90 constituencies between 7 AM and 6 PM.
This election presents a high-stakes contest as the BJP seeks a third consecutive term in power, while the Congress aims to reclaim leadership, driven by anti-incumbency sentiments and key issues like farmer protests and wrestler demonstrations.
Major political players in the fray include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and alliances such as Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).
A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting across the 90 assembly constituencies, with 20,632 polling stations set up for the voting process. The election results for Haryana, along with those of Jammu and Kashmir, will be announced on October 8.
