ED has charged him under the PMLA, while the CBI has linked him to criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

Nehal Modi Arrest in US Latest News Today: In a breakthrough for Indian investigative agencies, Nehal Modi, the brother of fugitive diamond tycoon Nirav Modi, has been arrested in the United States following an extradition request filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), officials confirmed on Friday.

Nehal Modi, who has been under the scanner for his alleged role in assisting his brother in the massive Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, was taken into custody by U.S. authorities after India formally requested his extradition.

Sources said the arrest was made after a U.S. court found sufficient merit in the evidence submitted by Indian agencies, which included financial transactions, communication records, and witness statements pointing to Nehal’s active involvement in concealing and laundering proceeds of crime.

Nehal Modi is accused of not only helping Nirav Modi flee India in early 2018 but also of playing a role in destroying digital evidence and setting up front companies to move funds across jurisdictions.

The Enforcement Directorate has charged him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), while the CBI has linked him to criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

Nehal's brother, Nirav Modi, remains jailed in the United Kingdom, where he is fighting his extradition to India. The two are among several accused in the PNB fraud case that shook India’s banking sector and led to sweeping reforms in banking oversight and compliance.

With Nehal now in custody, India is expected to push for an expedited extradition trial, hoping to bring him back for questioning and prosecution.

More updates are awaited as the extradition proceedings begin in the U.S. court.
