Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Latest News Today: In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed eleven lives during an event in Bengaluru, an FIR has been lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station against multiple parties, including Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), event management company DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee. The FIR cites criminal negligence as the cause of the incident.
The stampede occurred during a fan event organised at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands had gathered for RCB's post-season celebrations. Overcrowding and alleged mismanagement of crowd control measures led to chaos, resulting in the deaths of eleven people and injuries to dozens more.
In an official statement issued earlier today, Royal Challengers Bengaluru expressed deep sorrow, describing the incident as one that has brought “anguish and pain” to the entire RCB family. “As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced financial support of Rs 10 lakh for each of the eleven families of the deceased,” the franchise said.
Additionally, RCB revealed the creation of a special fund, RCB Cares, which will provide support to fans injured in the incident. “Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief,” the statement concluded.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have begun investigating the roles of all parties involved, including the event manager, DNA, and the KSCA Administrative Committee, in relation to security lapses and crowd control failures. Initial findings suggest that the organisers failed to anticipate the crowd size and did not implement adequate safety protocols.
Police officials have assured that all those found responsible for negligence will be held accountable under the law.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the cricketing and sports fraternity, with many calling for stricter regulations for mass gatherings and better planning from sports franchises when hosting large-scale events.
