Delhi on High Alert Ahead of Putin’s Visit: SWAT Teams and Snipers Deployed Across Capital
Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India on Thursday, 4th December, Delhi has been placed on high alert. The heightened security measures are part of preparations for the 23rd India-Russia annual strategic summit and high-level meetings with Indian leaders.
Senior police officials confirmed that over 5,000 personnel will be deployed across the national capital. “Minute-to-minute coordination is underway, and all concerned agencies have been instructed to maintain maximum vigilance throughout,” a senior officer told PTI. Officials added that every movement of the visiting president will be closely monitored by multiple security units.
A multi-layered security grid has been established, including SWAT teams, anti-terror units, snipers, and quick-reaction teams stationed at sensitive locations. Anti-drone systems have also been deployed to prevent any aerial threats, and all routes mapped for VVIP movement have been secured in advance. According to Delhi Police officials, traffic advisories will be issued periodically to reduce inconvenience to commuters.
Putin is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a private dinner at the PM’s residence and is also expected to hold discussions with President Droupadi Murmu. The agenda is focused on trade and economic cooperation, industrial projects, innovative technologies, transport, peaceful space exploration, mining, healthcare, and labour migration programmes.
Hoardings featuring images of both Putin and Modi have been put up across Delhi, signalling the significance of the visit. These measures reflect India’s commitment to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries while minimising disruptions to daily life.
Officials highlighted that all security arrangements are being constantly reviewed to respond swiftly to any potential threat. The capital’s security apparatus, combining ground personnel, surveillance systems, and rapid-response teams, represents one of the most comprehensive protective measures for a foreign head of state in recent years.
With the strategic summit and bilateral talks on the agenda, the city remains on high alert to ensure a seamless and secure visit for President Putin.
